The Gigi Proietti Globe Theatre brings a Shakespearean architectural idea into a Roman garden. Opened in 2003 through an initiative associated with Proietti and the Silvano Toti Foundation, the wooden theater arranges galleries around an open central space. Its form draws on London's Globe tradition rather than on a conventional enclosed auditorium.
That arrangement changes the relationship between audience and performers. Spectators occupy several levels and share the space around the stage, while the open center admits the conditions of an outdoor performance. The building became associated with Shakespeare productions and with Proietti's theatrical work in Rome.
A staircase collapse in 2022 interrupted use of the building, and subsequent plans have addressed its future. We have not confirmed a reopening for this guide's September 2026 review. Treat the map marker as the location of the theater, not as evidence that an interior visit or performance is available.
Use the municipal information linked below to check for an official update before planning an evening around it. Follow any barriers around the building when walking through this part of the park.
